If your new to Medicare you probably have heard the term "Medicare supplement" a thousand times already.  Most people think that a Medicare supplement means all types of Mediare plans.  This is not the case.  If your willing to pay a little higher premium, a Medicare supplement or Medigap policy is a great option for Medicare coverage.  Medicare pays first and a Medicare Supplement pays second.  These types of policies will pay most of Medicare's coinsurance and deductibles.  A Medicare supplement gives true freedom with:

  • no networks

  • no referrals

  • no surgery pre-approval

  • no co-pays or medical bills (some exceptions apply)

There is a window of opportunity to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan with no medical underwriting when your turning 65.  You may have to answer a series of health questions if you enroll outside the initial window.  We will research our carriers to find you the best value in a Medicare Supplement plan.  NC Senior Solutios partners with the top Medicare supplement companies offering plans here in NC.  Click on the "Get Help" button below to request more information about Medicare supplement plans.

Medicare Advantage Plans

If your looking for a lower premium all in one plan, this might fit the bill.  A Medicare Advantage plan works differently than a Medicare Supplement.  A Medicare Advantage plan takes the place of your Medicare.  Another words, a private company with a contract with Medicare will pay medical claims instead of Medicare.  You will be responsible for copays and coinsurance with a Medicare Advantage plan.  Medicare advantage plans have networks but most are quite extensive.  Some plans may allow out of network coverage for higher copays and coinsurance.  Some of the advantages of Medicare Advantage plan are:

  • low or no premium

  • includes prescription Part-D

  • limited extra benefits such as dental and vision

  • guaranteed acceptance

Enrolling in a prescription plan when you turn 65 or new to medicare is good idea.  Even if you don't take expensive medicine right now.  Medicare imposes a penalty if you do not enroll in a Part D plan when first eligible (usually turning 65).  If you choose a Medicare supplement, you will need to enroll in a "stand alone Part D" plan.  Most Medicare Advantage plans have Part D built in them being a alll-in-one plans.  Many part D plans have low or no copays for generic medicine.  Every plan has list of covered drugs called a formulary.  Formularies, premiums, and copays can change year to year.  We can walk you through the picking a Part D process by visiting and choose a plan based on the medications you’re currently taking.  As being a part of our family here at NC Senior Solutions.  We will reveiw your medication every year and recommend a change if needed during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct. 15th-Dec. 7th).  We are here to guide you on choosing the right prescription plan for now and into the future.  Click on the "Get Help" button below to recieve help with your medication.
